Connecting with the Heart

Last Saturday, I took a walk on Carson Beach in South Boston. I enjoy going back to that area, as I lived for several years on K Street in Southie and the Castle Island loop was my running trail during that time. As I looked out at the ocean, the notes of the song "Let There Be Peace on Earth" rang out from a church nearby. This was my mother's favorite song, the one we sang in her honor at my wedding and her funeral, so of course I felt her presence. In the next moment, my gaze fell upon this rock resting on the sand. The message seemed clear: walk through the world with love, share peace, make the world a better place by doing what I am able. In light of of all that is happening in the world right now, this is my solemn vow: Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me Let There Be Peace on Earth The peace that was meant to be With God as our Father Brothers all are we Let me walk with my brother In perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me Let this be the moment now. With ev'ry step I take Let this be my solemn vow To take each moment and live Each moment in peace eternally Let there be peace on earth And let it begin with me
